President Trump suggested to Senator Lindsey Graham today to call former President Barack Obama to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“If I were a Senator or Congressman, the first person I would call to testify about the biggest political crime and scandal in the history of the USA, by FAR, is former President Obama,” Trump tweeted on Thursday. “He knew EVERYTHING. Do it [Lindsey Graham], just do it. No more Mr. Nice Guy. No more talk!“
Senator Graham released a statement shortly after Trump’s tweet saying, “I am greatly concerned about the precedent that would be set by calling a former president for oversight. No president is above the law. However, the presidency has executive privilege claims against other branches of government.“
“As to the Judiciary Committee, both presidents are welcome to come before the committee and share their concerns about each other,” the senator said. “If nothing else, it would make for great television. However, I have great doubts about whether it would be wise for the country.”
Of course, Twitter erupted after Trump’s tweet.
One person tweeted, “President Obama has a free schedule now that he isn’t President. He should be happy to sit down and clear things up if nothing wrong was done. Right?“
Another person said, “The time has come for Obama to testify and pay for his abuse of power as president.“
