Sen. Mitt Romney went after Trump after Trump decided to commute Roger Stone’s prison sentence.

Unprecedented, historic corruption: an American president commutes the sentence of a person convicted by a jury of lying to shield that very president,” Romney tweeted Saturday morning.

It was the strongest statement of disapproval after the White House announced that Trump was commuting Stone’s prison sentence. The White House statement said that Stone “would be put at serious medical risk” if sent to prison and claimed that he was “treated very unfairly” by the courts.

Right before he was granted clemency, Stone talked to a reporter saying, “He [Trump] knows I was under enormous pressure to turn on him. It would have eased my situation considerably. But I didn’t.”

The internet immediately reacted to Romney’s tweet.

Oh shut up Mitt. You’re so bitter that you’ll never be President.” one person tweeted.

Another person tweeted, “I can’t believe I ever voted for a disgrace like Mitt Romney.”

One person said, “The President commuted the sentence of a defendant that was not permitted a re-trial even though it was discovered that the jury foreperson not only had a bias but a hatred toward the defendant before the trial even began. It’s called justice.

Another person said, “Unprecedented, historic RINO. Change parties, Senator.
